There are times when each of us run into obstacles that are in our way, trying to prevent us from moving forward with God.
Most people aren’t aware that there are obstacles blocking their destiny with God. They really don’t think there are any! The founder of Crown of Life Ministries, Rev. Dr. Rex Shanks called them the ‘frozen chosen’. The frozen chosen sit in their pews every week following the religious routine that is presented to them from flesh-driven speakers, only to do it again next week… until they die.
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:5-8
Sadly, many of them even know that there is more, yet aren’t interested in pursuing a greater relationship with God. Reminiscent of the Israelites that avoided God, asking Moses to deal with Him (Exodus 20). This kind builds their own obstacles to shield them from more of God in their lives.
Next are the ones who run into a little push-back from their obstacles and so, give up on God. Maybe they lost their spouse or a job. Maybe they tried to get close to God but nothing worked fast enough for them. Complainers and moaners. They blame God, so they quit. Pity party for them and those who’ll join them.
“Do all things without complaining and disputing.” Philippians 2:14
Then there are those who aren’t fools or quitters. The ones who want to conquer the obstacles in their path. Those who know that they can climb over any mountain in front of them with God! The conquerors!
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37
Sometimes we know what the obstacles are and so, we must deal with them or continue to let them divert or stop us from our destiny. It’s a choice.
When we are deliberately sinning, roadblocks to God are in place. When we decide to maintain friendships with worldly and carnal Christians, our spiritual life suffers. What is your priority, if not God?
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
God says to seek Him first.
“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11
Pursue. Chase after these things.
If one is not doing certain things that God plainly points out, then how can obstacles be removed?
Some obstacles are in place that we can’t see or understand. They may be evil spirits that have to be dealt with. Most Christians have never gone through a deliverance nor continue doing self-deliverance. Religion and inept leadership is much to blame for this. Evil spirits are constantly warring against Christians, to block them, divert them, deceive them and destroy them. Even those who are spiritually inclined, avoid spiritual warfare or think that it’s unnecessary or say something like, “I just eat a sandwich when evil spirits are around”, twisting Psalm 23:5 to fit their doctrine. If we’re supposed to ignore evil spirits, then why didn’t Jesus just ignore them and eat a sandwich? Such nonsense doctrines out there.
There may be generational curses or current curses set against you, creating obstacles. Maybe religious or sexual soul ties that have to be dealt with.
Many obstacle combinations can handicap a person from their density. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what they are and how to deal with them. Some may need being conquered in order. He has the timing and strategy.
A recommended exercise is, sitting down with your journal, writing down a question such as, “Holy Spirit, what are the obstacles blocking my path”? What words pop into your mind? If it’s something like, “You need to forgive your mother for hitting you when you were a child”, then do it. And so on. Conquering a mountain is done in steps.
This process mat take time, as sometimes people don’t want to shed themselves of hidden sinful lifestyles or improper relationships. Pursuing God and His holiness can bring persecution from people. You have to decide who you are, a people-pleaser or a God-pleaser.
Some stop part way up the mountain. That’s it for them. Too hard. Some will go back down to where it’s more comfortable for them. Those who want God will rest, gather strength from Him and climb higher.
Don’t be discouraged by people, the world, evil spirits or even yourself. Set your sights on the goal. Smack everything that’s in your way to the side. Rely on and trust in God. He won’t abandon you.
Obstacles in our way to God can be overcome. Don’t let them beat you!
