Thoughts and Intents
By Rhoda Collins
What’s the difference between thoughts and intents?
The Bible says,
“For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].” Philippians 4:8
This is a difficult scripture to maintain, because the bonding of intent and thought is soul tied for most people. Most think that their thoughts are the intents of their heart but they may not be. The thoughts that come into our head can be from our soulish mind or from demons or from God. The secret is to discern these thoughts so we know how to properly process them.
We need to separate them. Thoughts that have accusation in them, are chaotic, with no systematic sequence to them are familiar spirits that want to captivate your thoughts. They give you thoughts of:
- Doubt
- Fear
- Unbelief
- Anxiety
- Worry
- Distrust
- Immorality
- Religion (alternate Gospel)
Thoughts like these need to be destroyed before they take seed and grow.
Thoughts in our mind emanate light, frequency and color. As we begin to be captivated by thoughts, they become a seed, then the seed goes to intent. Intents of our heart are the way of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the desires of our heart are the way of life. Your heart is a garden and you are going to choose what tree you are going to be feeding from. Thoughts that you’ve allowed to be planted and cultivated empower you to feed from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For example, if you’re thinking about all the bad things you’ve done in life, you are feeding on the tree of knowledge of that.
When our thoughts are wrong, they have to be crucified. You take those thoughts and nail them to the cross and decree by faith that the blood of Christ has made you clean from the seed of that thought. You have to do this right away, otherwise, thoughts will conceive a seed in the intent.
This is how familiar spirits multiply. They fire their thoughts at us and any thoughts we accept as ours or as a desire or to be true, becomes seed. Familiar spirits sit on that accepted thought to get us to grow it… to become part of us… our intent. The intent has to be divided from our thoughts so that the intent doorway can be shut from any seed from the demonic world so that our intent can become a desire for the realm of God’s Kingdom.
When people have a negative circumstance, they think about negative thoughts. Then they say a negative stuff about their circumstances, and then their mood begins to sink in. Next they get a bad attitude, and they end up with more negative circumstances than they started with. But you can break all those cycles of negative mind, moods and attitudes.
Luke 10:19 says that we have the power to “tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” When you have a problem, no negative talk will fix it. Instead, keep you mind, mouth and attitudes positive and watch God do miracles in your life.
Take and inventory of your thoughts life and deliberately choose the right thinking and cast down all arguments and thoughts from the enemy.
Three things that govern your life are desires, thoughts and intents.
If the intents of our heart are connected with our thought life, then we will grow ungodly fruit in our life. If an image comes into our mind with the thought, we can’t just ignore it. We have already looked at it. We must confront the image. We say: “Jesus this is sin in my thought life and today I ask You to forgive me and by faith I take the blood of Jesus and I wipe out this image from my mind”.
If we don’t deal with our thoughts in our mind and it goes into intent and grows into a tree, this gives a sacrifice to a demon spirit. It consumes you. So, what we need to do is crucify the thoughts and then go into our body and command it to come into divine order in holiness so when we come into your marriage bed with Christ, it is not defiled.
Everything that is not for our marriage with Christ is out of order and must be destroyed. Pray like this: “Jesus. I bring this today by faith. I come to the cross and I nail those evil thoughts there. Every ungodly image I have, today by faith I take these images and I redeem them with the blood of Jesus. I will not think on these things. I turn my mind toward Christ, on things that are wholly acceptable and pure. Jesus, I want you to be my Husband. I want to be in Your presence and be in holiness”.
Paul said in Romans 7:15-20,
“For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. I do not practice or accomplish what I wish, but I do the very thing that I loathe which my moral instinct condemns]. Now if I do [habitually] what is contrary to my desire, [that means that] I acknowledge and agree that the Law is good (morally excellent) and that I take sides with it. However, it is no longer I who do the deed, but the sin [principle] which is at home in me and has possession of me.
For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. [I have the intention and urge to do what is right, but no power to carry it out.] For I fail to practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do are what I am [ever] doing. Now if I do what I do not desire to do, it is no longer I doing it [it is not myself that acts], but the sin [principle] which dwells within me [fixed and operating in my soul]”.
Where intents are formed through wrong desires, a tree inside of us produces fruit all of itself and it doesn’t need our thoughts anymore to manifest. God is a consuming fire. Let Him come with fire to burn all the bad seed, trees and fruit within us.
The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12 that the “Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.”
Judge your thoughts with the fire of the Word of God and put them to death. Put to death the tie between our thoughts and our intents so that the thought life cannot put seeds in the intents of our heart. This is a process that God wants us to engage.
We can’t become a flame of fire until we’ve had His fire burn in the intents of our life. We need to be tried by the fire of God so our DNA can be changed by the presence of God. As we are changed by the Spirit of God, then the change inside of us begins to manifest and gets revealed as holiness as we stand in humility under the Holy Spirit.
As we stay under the shadow of God’s wings, we are taking the image of God which is fire. And wherever we go, the fire burns. The Bible doesn’t say: “I will go and you will be with me” but it says: “You go and I will be with you”.
A problem is, we can feel so defiled by our thoughts and intents, that we don’t really believe that He is with us.
Deal with the thoughts, to become an image of what He looks like and He can step into you. We want the habitation of our Father over our life engaging in the realm of the Kingdom. The Kingdom realm needs to open up around us. God wants us to engage in revelatory understanding of who we are in Heaven. When we have done wrong, Father loves us in the middle of that. He wants us to look at Him and become like Him.
We must make a choice to walk in God’s fire. We need the glory of the Lord to sit with fire over the seat of our thoughts and intents. We need to engage the desire of God for our life and allow God to plant seeds into the intent for our life. For His seeds to grow, we’ve got to plant them and water them, so we need to be watering the desires of God.
Easy watering exercise that Jesus taught us to follow (yet most rarely do)… “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
